iOS 27 Ships Monday. What Ships With It Is the Interesting Part
Apple releases iOS 27 on 14 September with Siri AI labelled beta, English only, and two announced features cut from the first version. After 2024, that caution is the story.

Apple will release iOS 27 on Monday, 14 September, alongside iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27 — the entire lineup on a single day. The date is not the interesting part. What is interesting is how carefully Apple has described what will actually be in the box.
The date arrived in a footnote
Apple did not announce it from the stage. At the 9 September event the iPhone 18 Pro and the foldable iPhone Duo took the keynote, and the release date for the software that runs on them appeared in the footnotes of a press release instead. For a company that has historically treated a software ship date as a closing slide, putting it in small print is a decision, not an oversight.
Siri AI ships — in beta
The centrepiece of iOS 27 is Siri AI, the rebuilt assistant Apple introduced at WWDC in June.

On Monday it arrives labelled beta, and in English only. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish follow in October. It requires an Apple Intelligence–capable iPhone, runs on device with Private Cloud Compute handling heavier requests, and supports hands-free activation through the new AirPods 5.
Apple does not casually attach the word beta to a consumer feature it is shipping in a point-zero release. Doing so here sets expectations before reviews land rather than after — which is precisely what it failed to do the last time it promised a new Siri.
Two features did not make 1.0
Two Apple Intelligence features announced for iOS 27 will not be in Monday's build:

Apple posted the change on its own iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate pages, since both features are cross-platform: they "will not be in the initial version of iOS 27, and will instead launch in a later version of iOS 27." MacRumors points out that iOS 27.1 has to ship before 23 October, when the iPhone Duo arrives with 27.1 preinstalled — so the wait is plausibly weeks rather than quarters.
Why this reads differently than 2024
At WWDC 2024 Apple announced a personalised Siri that could act across apps using on-screen and personal context. It put the feature in television advertising. It then shipped none of it, and in March 2025 confirmed the delay — the assistant slipping to 2026. The damage was not the delay itself. It was that the promise had been marketed as a product for nine months before Apple conceded it did not exist.
The 2026 posture inverts that sequence. The ship date is fixed and the feature list flexes around it. What is not ready is named in advance, on Apple's own product pages, with the incomplete parts labelled rather than quietly omitted. It is a less flattering way to launch software. It is also the only version of this Apple can credibly run twice.
What Monday actually brings
Beyond Siri, iOS 27 carries Liquid Glass interface refinements, Spatial Reframing and an Extend tool in Photos, automatic tab organisation and website monitoring in Safari, Visual Intelligence in Camera mode, photorealistic output in Image Playground, and performance work on app launches, Photos loading and AirDrop. The Apple Post reports support back to the iPhone 11; Apple has not published the device list for the Apple Intelligence features specifically, which is the list that matters for anything above.
The real test is not whether iOS 27 arrives on time. It is whether a Siri shipped under a beta label feels like a product with rough edges or a preview wearing a release number. Monday is when that stops being a question about Apple's marketing and becomes a question about the software.
